Choosing the Right Colours for Your Personality

Hi, I’m Eileen. Colour is one of the most personal parts of a home, yet it’s also where people often feel the most unsure.
I see it all the time, someone loves colour but worries it might be “too much,” or they default to beige (or white) because it feels safe, even though it doesn’t really excite them.
The truth is, there’s no right or wrong when it comes to colour. The best colours for your home are the ones that reflect you, your personality, your lifestyle and how you want your space to feel every day.
Start by Understanding How Colour Makes You Feel
Before choosing any paint colour, I always encourage people to think about emotion first. Do you want your home to feel calm and grounding, energetic and uplifting, cosy and nurturing, or light and fresh?
Some people naturally gravitate towards soft neutrals because they love a sense of calm and simplicity.
Others feel most at home surrounded by rich, deeper tones or playful pops of colour that spark joy and creativity. Neither approach is better, it’s simply about what feels right for you.
Beige Isn’t Boring (If It’s Done Well)
Beige and neutral tones get a bad reputation, but they can be incredibly beautiful when chosen thoughtfully. Warm neutrals layered with texture, timber, and soft fabrics can create a space that feels timeless and inviting rather than flat or bland.
If you’re drawn to neutrals, lean into them just make sure you’re adding interest through texture, contrast and subtle variation in tone.
Bold Doesn’t Have to Mean Overwhelming
On the other end of the spectrum, choosing bold colours doesn’t mean every wall needs to be bright or dramatic. Bold can be as simple as a deep green in a study, a moody blue in a bedroom, or a rich terracotta in a living space.
Using colour intentionally, rather than everywhere, allows bold shades to feel confident and balanced, not overwhelming.

Let Your Personality Lead the Way
Your home should reflect who you are. If you love travel, art, or nature, those influences often show up naturally in the colours you’re drawn to.
If you enjoy calm, order and simplicity, softer palettes may suit you better.
There’s no need to follow trends or copy someone else’s style. The most successful interiors are the ones that feel authentic to the people who live in them.
Balance Is Key
No matter where you sit on the beige-to-bold scale, balance is what makes a colour palette work. This might mean pairing a bold wall colour with softer furnishings, or warming up a neutral space with layered textures and natural materials.
Balance allows your personality to shine through without the space feeling chaotic or unfinished.
Trust Your Instincts
One of the biggest mistakes I see is people talking themselves out of colours they genuinely love. If a colour makes you smile every time you see it, that’s usually a very good sign.
Your home doesn’t need to appeal to everyone, it just needs to feel right for you and the way you live.
Choosing Colours That Feel Like Home
Whether you’re firmly in the neutral camp, love a bit of bold colour, or sit somewhere in between, the right palette is the one that makes you feel comfortable and happy in your own space.
If you’re feeling stuck or unsure, I’d love to help you choose colours that reflect your personality and create a home that truly feels like you.
